Andrew Lawton provides a professional design and making service for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship, contemporary design and the beauty of natural wood. The scope of his workshop ranges from single small items to complete room schemes; from delicate inlaid jewellery boxes to a massive oak tables. Each piece reveals an attention to detail and understanding of the client's needs that few large scale manufacturers can match.
Traditional cabinetmaking techniques such as hand cut dovetails combine with an awareness of new methods and modern materials to enable the workshop to take advantage of recent developments, but Andrew's knowledge of design and cabinetmaking ensure that high quality and good practice are never compromised for the sake of appearance or the desire to be different.
Andrew is a Member of the Chartered Society of Designers and a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. He is a holder of three Bespoke Guild Marks from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and on two occasions his designs have been shortlisted for the furniture category of the Wood Awards.
Away from his own workshop, in the late nineteen eighties he made fitted furniture onsite for a luxury house on the island of Nevis, West Indies. More recently Andrew taught at the Center For Furniture Craftsmanship, Maine, USA, and spent two short periods working for internationally acclaimed designer-craftsman, the late Alan Peters, OBE.
He has contributed many articles to 'Furniture & Cabinetmaking' and 'Woodworker' magazines and examples of his work are includes in several books including 'Furniture for the 21st Century' by Betty Norbury and 'The Complete Woodworker's Companion' by Roger Holmes.
